What's Measured

Chlamydia Trachomatis (CT): This test detects the presence of the bacteria responsible for chlamydia, one of the most common sexually transmitted infections.

Neisseria Gonorrhoeae (NG): It identifies the bacteria responsible for gonorrhea, another prevalent STD.

When to Test

Potential Exposure: If you've had unprotected sexual contact with a new partner or a partner who may have had other sexual contacts.

Annual Check: For sexually active individuals, particularly those with multiple partners, an annual screening is recommended.

Symptoms Presence: Even if you show mild or no symptoms if there's any reason to believe you might've been exposed.

Special Instructions: Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) may not be immediately detectable following exposure; this interval is known as the window period. It is advisable to wait a minimum of two weeks after potential exposure to the disease before undergoing this test to ensure more accurate results.

Do NOT urinate at least 1 hour prior to collection.

Do NOT cleanse the genital area before collection.

The sample should be collected from the initial stream of urine in the morning and returned on the same day.

Symptoms to Note

Chlamydia (CT): Many infected individuals show no symptoms. However, possible signs include pain during urination, lower abdominal pain, vaginal discharge in women, and discharge from the penis in men.

Gonorrhea (NG): Symptoms might include thick green or yellow discharge from sexual organs, pain when urinating, bleeding between periods in women, and swollen testicles in men.
